The marketplace in 2026. Frantic. Turbulent.

The news broadcast echoed from the television set mounted in the corner of the office. Domestic gold prices continually shattered every historical record, plunging headlong only to surge violently back up, sweeping millions of souls into a frenzy of wild delirium. Endless streams of weary people lined up from the break of dawn before street-side gold shops, eyes bloodshot with anxiety, hands clutching wads of paper currency depreciating by the hour. Amidst the relentless, dizzying pace of current times, humanity suddenly recognized the fragile, trembling nature of accounting figures and digitized accounts.

Online. A woman tirelessly livestreamed to spout diatribes on "diamonds," a trend now spilling over into gold like a cascading domino effect. Surely, a puppeteer pulls the strings behind the curtain?

Nó took this opportunity to journey back into the past, seeking to comprehend the origins of this metal through Dominic Frisby’s “The Secret History of Gold” (Goldbust / Daylight Robbery).

As a financial economist, a brilliant columnist for MoneyWeek, and a premier stand-up comedian in Britain, Dominic Frisby possesses a rare, bizarre fusion of an investor's cold analytical mindset and an artist's razor-sharp, bitter satire. This creates a singularly unique prose: naked, decisive, heavy as a block of lead, yet ablaze with lampooning wit. Luminous within the nakedness.

In “The Secret History of Gold,” Frisby does not merely recount the tale of a yellow precious metal. He conducts a grand-scale surgical autopsy on human civilization's history, dissecting the existential triangle between Gold – Power – and Deprivation.

"Gold is not just a commodity. Gold is the solitary currency that requires no government or central bank to guarantee it. It is the manifestation of ultimate freedom and a financial anchor against manipulation."

Dominic Frisby guides his readers through thousands of years of history: from the earliest minted coins in Lydia, the collapse of the Roman Empire when currency was debased with base metals, to the abandonment of the Gold Standard to yield space for the era of fiat money. He coldly demonstrates that throughout human history, whenever ruling regimes faced an impasse or sought to finance grandiose wars, they invariably chose to print more paper money, distort numbers, and manufacture a false illusion of growth.

The inevitable outcome? Paper money lost its value, inflation exploded, and the vital oxygen of survival was drained from the laboring masses.

Reading Frisby’s work amidst the current Vietnamese news climate, nó felt a sharp, fractured ache (rứt rách) reverberate directly through its mind. The phrases "the specter of inflation" and "the erosion of trust in fiat money," which Frisby warned of years ago, were unfolding vividly before its very eyes.

Why do Vietnamese citizens rush to purchase gold whenever the market fluctuates?

Why does the crowd accept standing exhausted under the scorching sun just to exchange stacks of paper bills for a few mace of gold bullion?

It is not merely short-term pragmatism. Viewed through Dominic Frisby’s lens, it is humanity's primal instinct for survival. Exactly like the lesson of adaptation in Spencer Johnson's Who Moved My Cheese?, the warning against fabricated metrics in Jack Trout's In Search of Arrogance / Big Brands, Big Trouble, or the risks of cold digitization in Joe Wheeler's The Digital Customer Experience: when people realize that growth charts on pixelated displays are merely impermanent illusions (vô thường), they automatically seek an independent, unyielding anchor.

Gold is that immutable "cheese." Gold is the sole entity that cannot be printed out by a computer command or an altered accounting report.

Dominic Frisby equips nó with a minimalist yet vital cognitive sieve: gold yields no interest rate, but gold preserves human dignity and sovereignty (Autonomy) for human beings standing against the arrogance of soulless financial machinery.

Nó gazes through the office window. The late twilight slowly drops, painting a corner of the city sky in deep crimson. The news broadcast continues to preach frantic numbers of gold fluctuations and dizzying financial forecasts.

Nó involuntarily sighs. Looking at the files cluttered with data upon the desk, nó realizes that the public servant (gã công bộc) inside has long been imprisoned within another fever of illusions: the relentless fever of daily bread and survival. People hurl themselves into the race to hoard silver, gold, and wealth in search of a false security, yet in the end, their inner souls remain bone-dry (khô khốc) and withered.

Nó understands that gold or currency, when stripped bare, are merely medium-of-exchange artifacts of the worldly realm. The solitary "gold standard" capable of keeping a man standing upright against every storm of life remains uncompromised integrity and absolute love (yêu thương) devoted to the hearth.

For the public servant this afternoon, reading about the secret history of gold is not an invitation to plunge into speculative hoarding. It is to comprehend the true velocity of freedom, to protect the innocence of the children, and to keep the hearth fires burning. That is the ultimate blueprint of life—a touchpoint of love (yêu thương) immutable before all impermanence (vô thường) out there.
